My go-to homemade bone broth! Bone broth is one wellness trend that is worth the hype🙌🏼
Bone broth is essentially a broth made by simmering the bones of animals, along with veggie scraps and fresh herbs, for an extended period of time in order to break down and extract the nutrients for the health benefits.
It's rich in nutrients, minerals, protein, and collagen. Collagen is a protein that provides structure and strength to skin, bones, and connective tissues in the body.
Homemade bone broth is also much more cost effective than purchasing it from the store, reduces food waste, and tastes delicious! You can drink it straight, use as a base for soup, or use as the liquid when cooking rice (or any grain)!
Homemade Bone Broth
Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: 24 hours
Ingredients:
Over time, whenever you are finished eating chicken, beef, or turkey, place the bones in a bag and store in the freezer. You can also save vegetable scraps in this bag (such as the butt ends of onions, carrots, and celery). Continuously add to this bag until it’s filled to the top.
Salt
Pepper
Herbes de Provence, or a blend of rosemary, thyme, and sage
Instructions:
Place the bones and veggie scraps in a large pot and cover completely with filtered water.
Season with salt, pepper, and herbes de Provence- or a blend of rosemary, thyme, and sage.
Place on the stove top and cook, covered, on a low simmer for 24 hours (turning off when you leave the house and sleep at night).
Strain the broth into a bowl to remove the scraps and bones.
Allow the broth to cool and then pour into your preferred storing method (mason jars is mine).
Enjoy for up to 1 week and freeze remaining bone broth.
